This active family of four — all avid skiers — knew exactly where they wanted to be, and how much they wanted to entertain (spoiler alert: a lot), but when they found the right house on the right street, it needed a little help. A freshly hatched new-build, the home had great bones, but not enough of the rustic chalet vibe this family were craving.
Enter Lindsay Mens to feather their new nest. With help from Haley Dermenjian, Lindsay upgraded the interior architectural elements, then added texture and warmth with comfortable furniture, antiques and vintage accents, plus a few carefully chosen light fixtures to bring sculpture and atmosphere to the principal rooms. As with most vacation homes, budget was a consideration, so Lindsay and Haley were very strategic in their choices of art and furnishings, focusing on objects with interesting character or scale to achieve maximum impact. Deep loungey sofas and chairs ground the family and living rooms, while layers of cozy fabric create the perfect soft landing for apres-ski drinks and nibbles.
To really drive home the ski chalet vibe, the designers chose a selection of classic fabrics such as plaid and buffalo check, as well as textures like wool and boucle. The family loves antique rugs and vintage one-of-a kind accessories which, combined with a courageous sense of colour, makes for a magical mix.
In the kitchen, functionality was key. When you’re whipping up a hot meal for a big group of hungry skiers on the daily, you need high-spec amenities, ample storage and a lot of space to move around. Lindsay and Haley created a floorplan with plenty of room for multiple sous-chefs and a great big island, perfect for a supersized spread!
This well-located getaway is now infused with a fun-loving weekend vibe that’s relaxed and chic — perfect for the family that spends their down(hill) time in this marvellous mountain retreat.
